My passion for fitness began in 1993 as a sophomore in college at UW Oshkosh where I majored in Kinesiology. My career began in a gym in Florida, before moving back to Chicago where I was Head Trainer at Lakeshore Athletic Club until 2005. Then I made the best decision of my life... opening my own gym. Blockhead Fitness is all about personal attention. Every program that we create here is custom designed for each client, focusing on their goals and then progressing to more challenging workouts as they become more fit.  I use elements of yoga, plyometrics, isometrics, cardio, speed, agility, classic resistance training, and suspension training. I care about my clients and I am obsessed with your form and keeping you healthy. This is not about money for me, but the feeling I get when my clients drop a dress size or bust out 50 uninterrupted push ups... and those are my female clients! When I am not at my gym, I am getting an even better work out trying to keep up with my two year-old daughter Samantha.

You will be surprised how quickly you see results. I will push you to your limit, but you will happily book your next appointment, because we have so much fun. Laughing burns calories after all!

As a young, undersized athlete I started working out and training at an early age out of necessity- to gain an edge over the bigger kids. I continue to train now for mostly aesthetic reasons.  I became a personal trainer in 2007 and during this time my clients have varied in age, health and personal goals. I feel comfortable with everyone from teenagers, to injured athletes, to that stay at home mom that feels anxious returning to the gym. I get it and I love getting you excited to be back in the gym and looking in the mirror again. Fitness is actually my second love; my first is performing. You may recognize me from the improv theatre, The Annoyance, but probably not. So with me you get a triple threat, a great trainer, quick wit, and of course, a novice therapist. Most of my clients have been with me for several years and I feel grateful to be included in most of their lives. Some I just can't shake.

You will see a change in your body, but more importantly in your mindset.  You'll look forward to the sessions, and I'll show you some awesome core and ab exercises.  Just make sure you don't have to cough, sneeze or laugh the next day.

Lynsey Genin, Expert Trainer

My whole life I have loved being active. I was involved in dance for 17 years, performing all types including jazz, modern, tap, pointe, lyrical, and hip hop.  As an adult I have found a career that allows me to interact with others and teach them to love fitness as much as I do! I have a degree in Health Promotion from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and I love learning new workout techniques such as yoga, Pilates, AIR yoga, dance and barre and often incorporate them into my workouts. Since moving to Chicago I have had the opportunity to work within a variety of corporate wellness locations and I take full advantage of our beautiful city, playing volleyball, biking, swimming or just walking around. I enjoy working with my clients in both a one on one session as well as in groups, so feel free to bring a friend! In my personal opinion, the most rewarding aspect of this profession is motivating my clients to go above and beyond their personal goals. I pride myself in my ability to customize every work out based on your passion, ability and goals, taking you to the next level safely and with a lot of fun.

You should be ready for anything! I love to switch things up and use new equipment and techniques to keep you progressing to your goals. And of course having fun along the way!

Candy Morales, Master Trainer

I started in the physical fitness field in 2003. After seeing my photo you may be surprised to learn that I wasn't an active kid or teenager and needed to lose 50 plus pounds to regain my health. Finally in my twenties I changed my life and my career, I dropped over 85 lbs and have since become certified in ACE and AFAA and I have taught every format of group fitness classes possible! I'm also currently a Master Instructor at Flywheel Sports. In my spare time I like to take spin classes, bond with my family, get another workout in, or sleep!

Get ready to jump, leap, hop, step, lift, sweat, cry and of course laugh. I take no prisoners and expect the very best from my clients. No one has more faith in you and your abilities than me!

I really got into fitness in college to stay in shape and release stress and once I got started, I grew fascinated with pushing myself. After college I became certified as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. But I did not stop there, over the years I have intensely studied several types of movement and exercise including certifications in Kettle bells, Yoga, and Pilates.  I am also a USAT LEVEL 1 Triathlon Coach, Licensed Massage Therapist, and Thai Massage Therapist, which means that I can train you even if you suffer from, aches and pains.  I love watching my clients improve and achieve their goals.  From training clients through their first triathlon at the age of 40, to helping a nine year-old get more active and improve coordination, to increasing mobility for senior clients; the best part of my job is when someone takes that next step forward on their fitness journey.  My focus is to keep my clients performing and living life at their maximum potential, without pain and injury, for as long as possible.

You will work really hard, but have a great time, get pushed to your limits and then exceed them.

I was born and raised in the Chicago land area.  I grew up playing tons of sports throughout high school and college. I was the captain of my football, basketball, and baseball team in high school and continued playing baseball throughout college.  I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate and Organizations Communications.

With my passion for sports came a passion for fitness. Fitness has been a major part of my life and will continue to be.  I have been a Personal Trainer for the past since 2011 and truly enjoy making a difference in people’s lives by showing them that their fitness goals are within reach.

I believe in taking each client through a certain process to insure proper form and technique in order to obtain the results my clients are working towards. My ability to accomplish this is a strong background in sports leadership, knowledge of human movement science, as well as functional assessment and program design. I look forward to leading each client through motivating and challenging workouts.

Johnny Higgins, Manager &Professional Boxing Instructor

I have been boxing since I was 15 years old. One day my god brother took me into a boxing gym and I immediately fell in love with the smell of the leather, the practice and the sound of my fist on the bag.  After day one I felt more confident and stronger inside and out.  The first person I sparred with was my trainer and he told me I had a great right hand and after sparring with him only three times he had to quit because I just hit too hard. From there I started challenging the guys in the gym, some of them were professional and I was giving them a real problem and I loved it.  My fourth fight was against a guy with over 30 fights and it went to a decision. He won, but I knew I had what it took to go pro. In 1997 I was the runner up in the Chicago Golden Glove and went pro a few years later.  As much as I loved professional fighting, I always knew that coaching would be my greatest achievement. I want to build my boxing legacy and continue to fight though other fighters.

I love working with men, women and children. In fact most of my clients' husbands insist they come back, because it transforms their body and their spirit. They are happier with a body that is just rippling with muscle tone and definition. One client loved it so much, he got his two sons involved and his entire family has been boxing with me for over two years. Every day I recognize that I am blessed, because I get paid to do what I love.  The truth is, and don't tell Sean, but I would do it for free.

When you train with me…
You will be pushed, inspired and empowered all while learning a practical self-defense skill and surpassing your fitness goals.

Ottu Holifield’s

Professional Boxing Instructor

I actually had a late start, about seventeen, when I first discovered boxing. I was on my way to work when I passed by the gym and I just knew I had to do this. I walked in and "that's a wrap" as they say, I was hooked. The practice of fighting is highly addictive. Even when you are just training you have to be very competitive and disciplined to be successful. But I was lucky, because I had a fabulous trainer who worked with some of the big Chicago heavy weight fighters like Angel Manfredy, Andrew Golota, Tom Zimbowski.

When I went pro, my record was eight and two and I won the Chicago Golden Gloves four times. In 2001 I won the silver medal in the National Golden Gloves. To this day my coach and I are very close and he seeks out my advice on his new fighters. This inspired me to go into coaching myself. I worked at Lakeshore Athletic Club for four years and with children at Short Sports, teaching them the fundaments of different sports. When I am not coaching at Blockhead, I continue to work with the trainers at my boxing gym, developing younger talent. I also love playing poker and chess. I have a 13-year-old son and we work on his homework together and read books. So far he is not a fighter, but I could not be more proud of his academic achievements.

When you train with me…
You will fall in love with the work out of boxing. You will come here to get in shape, but you will leave with the option to go pro.
