My passion for fitness began in 1993 as a sophomore in college at UW Oshkosh where I majored in Kinesiology. My career began in a gym in Florida, before moving back to Chicago where I was Head Trainer at Lakeshore Athletic Club until 2005. Then I made the best decision of my life... opening my own gym. Blockhead Fitness is all about personal attention. Every program that we create here is custom designed for each client, focusing on their goals and then progressing to more challenging workouts as they become more fit. I use elements of yoga, plyometrics, isometrics, cardio, speed, agility, classic resistance training, and suspension training. I care about my clients and I am obsessed with your form and keeping you healthy. This is not about money for me, but the feeling I get when my clients drop a dress size or bust out 50 uninterrupted push ups... and those are my female clients! When I am not at my gym, I am getting an even better work out trying to keep up with my two year-old daughter Samantha.

I found my passion for fitness after discovering the world of aerial arts and circus. I became intrigued with the strength, flexibility, creativity and grace involved in the fascinating discipline. I love being in the air, and also enjoy contortion and hand balancing. I find it important to cross train. I like to incorporate various exercise methods and techniques. I emphasize on flexibility, mobility, body awareness and form, progressions, and self care.

I really got into fitness in college to stay in shape and release stress and once I got started, I grew fascinated with pushing myself. After college I became certified as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. But I did not stop there, over the years I have intensely studied several types of movement and exercise including certifications in Kettle bells, Yoga, and Pilates. I am also a USAT LEVEL 1 Triathlon Coach, Licensed Massage Therapist, and Thai Massage Therapist, which means that I can train you even if you suffer from, aches and pains. I love watching my clients improve and achieve their goals. From training clients through their first triathlon at the age of 40, to helping a nine year-old get more active and improve coordination, to increasing mobility for senior clients; the best part of my job is when someone takes that next step forward on their fitness journey. My focus is to keep my clients performing and living life at their maximum potential, without pain and injury, for as long as possible.

Javier Benson, MASTER TRAINER

I was born and raised in the Chicago land area. I grew up playing tons of sports throughout high school and college. I was the captain of my football, basketball, and baseball team in high school and continued playing baseball throughout college. I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate and Organizations Communications.
With my passion for sports came a passion for fitness. Fitness has been a major part of my life and will continue to be. I have been a Personal Trainer for the past since 2011 and truly enjoy making a difference in people’s lives by showing them that their fitness goals are within reach.
I believe in taking each client through a certain process to insure proper form and technique in order to obtain the results my clients are working towards. My ability to accomplish this is a strong background in sports leadership, knowledge of human movement science, as well as functional assessment and program design. I look forward to leading each client through motivating and challenging workouts.

I have been boxing since I was 15 years old. One day my god brother took me into a boxing gym and I immediately fell in love with the smell of the leather, the practice and the sound of my fist on the bag. After day one I felt more confident and stronger inside and out. The first person I sparred with was my trainer and he told me I had a great right hand and after sparring with him only three times he had to quit because I just hit too hard. From there I started challenging the guys in the gym, some of them were professional and I was giving them a real problem and I loved it. My fourth fight was against a guy with over 30 fights and it went to a decision. He won, but I knew I had what it took to go pro. In 1997 I was the runner up in the Chicago Golden Glove and went pro a few years later. As much as I loved professional fighting, I always knew that coaching would be my greatest achievement. I want to build my boxing legacy and continue to fight though other fighters.
I love working with men, women and children. In fact most of my clients' husbands insist they come back, because it transforms their body and their spirit. They are happier with a body that is just rippling with muscle tone and definition. One client loved it so much, he got his two sons involved and his entire family has been boxing with me for over two years. Every day I recognize that I am blessed, because I get paid to do what I love. The truth is, and don't tell Sean, but I would do it for free.
